Fabricare Cleaners , a trusted leader in dry cleaning & clothing care has been doing business in Fairfield County for over 30 years. In the last decade, owner Michael Astorino and his team have launched a variety of other cleaning services under the Fabricare Brand using their expertise in cleaning all types of fabrics. These services include HomeCare (home furnishing cleaning), LaundryCare (a subscription-based laundry service), and LinenCare (a linen cleaning service that includes membership opportunities). Fabricare is excited to announce its latest service relaunch: BridalCare .

BridalCare has existed as a Fabricare brand in years past but never before was there a team of half a dozen experts whose job is solely to clean, repair, and preserve wedding gowns. Proper bridal gown, veil, and accessory care commands a special set of expertise that most cleaners simply don’t have. The highly trained BridalCare team are experts in the intricacies of cleaning and preserving gowns and bridal accessories, and their high level of craftsmanship (which is all done by hand!) is evident in the beautiful work they do.

There are an estimated 2.5 million weddings expected to take place in 2022, which is the largest number since 1984. Now that is something to raise a glass and toast about!

Why the big bridal booms? The current increase in weddings is largely due to the record number of cancellations and postponements that took place over the past 2 years because of Covid precautions. After having to delay so many special occasions and be apart from loved ones, many are planning big celebrations to make up for lost time.

But what about the 1984 boom? According to a recent New York Times article, there are a handful of reasons behind the ‘84 boom in wedded bliss, including it being a time when many baby boomers reached marrying age. Additionally, this was the time of the disappearance of the “hippie generation”. There was a resurgence of monogamous lifestyle and a desire to go back to “the wholesome, good old fashion day”. Another reason? Just a couple of years earlier, Princess Diana and Princes Charles tied the knot with 750 million people around the world tuning in. The royal nuptials glamorized weddings and marriage for many who watched.

Tips for Proper Gown Care

After you say I DO the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, it's time to say I DO to the dress! The expense and memories that come with your bridal gown, earn it the right to be cared for in the best possible way.

Here are some tips for proper cleaning & care for your precious gown:

Hang your gown by the loops inside your dress that are connected to the sturdy side seams. No loops? No problem: make some from ribbon and sew them onto the side seams of your wedding gown.
Avoid storing your gown in a plastic bag. Plastic bags emit fumes that can yellow your bridal gown.
Don’t store your wedding gown in a vacuum-sealed, shrink-wrapped container. They can trap moisture that can mildew your wedding gown and wrinkles do not press out of a wedding gown that has been shrink-wrapped.
Ask your cleaner what precautions they take protect delicate trims and embellishments on your wedding gown and how they plan to guard against latent stains.
Avoid storing your bridal gown in the attic or basement where major changes in temperature or humidity can occur. Also, avoid resting your wedding gown chest against the outside wall because dampness can migrate through the wall and penetrate the wedding chest.

Calling All Brides!

Wedding season has arrived! For all you brides who have said YES to the dress (and bridesmaids or mothers of the bride with formal dresses), congrats! There is enough to stress about when it comes to planning your big day...caring for your gown shouldn't be on that list!

Protecting Your Dress Before the Big Day:

HANG IT - Hang your dress on a padded hanger, not a plastic one. Hang it as high as possible (even on the back of a door if needed) so it doesn’t touch the ground.
STORE IT - Store your dress in a cool, dry area. Keep it in the dress bag it came in until a few days before your wedding day, then remove from the bag so that the skirt can begin to release some wrinkles.
CALL THE PROFESSIONALS - If your dress has a lot of wrinkles leading up to your big day, bring it in to a professional to care for it – different materials require different methods for releasing wrinkles, so leave it to the professionals to properly care for it.

Preserving the Memory After the Big Day:

CLEAN IT - It is best to bring your dress to a cleaner that has expertise in bridal gown cleaning as soon as possible (definitely within a month of your wedding). This way any stains on the dress won’t have as much time to set.
PRESERVE IT - Have your cleaner pack your dress in a special storage box made specially for gowns. This will help eliminate any chance for contamination.
STORE IT - Store your dress within the box in a cool, dry place, NOT in the basement or attic. Many dry cleaners can store it for you in a climate controlled area.
